The World of Disney to be the first store to sell reusable shoppers

It may soon cost a little bit more to bring home your favorite Disney souvenirs.

World of Disney stores in both Disney Springs and Downtown Disney will hold their grand re-openings next week and, as a new look and new merchandise are introduced, it seems as though plastic bags will be disappearing.

Disney officials said both shops will be the first merchandise locations in the Disney parks to utilize reusable merchandise bags that will feature classic Disney characters, including Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and Pluto.

The bags, which will cost $1, are made from 80 percent recycled materials and are meant to contribute to Disney’s goal of reducing its use of single-use plastics by the middle of next year.

In August, Disney officials said that plastic straws, cup lids and shopping bags would no longer be openly available to guests at Disneyland.

“Eliminating plastic straws and other plastic items are meaningful steps in our long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship. These new global efforts help reduce our environmental footprint, and advance our long-term sustainability goals,” Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products Chairman Bob Chapek said in a statement at the time.

What are your thoughts? Great idea? Or do you think Disney are slow at reacting to plastic reduction? Let me know in the comments.
